layers

Upper Layer

The upper layer has a vague headspace because all inhabitants are aphantasiac.[1] Objects can be easily summoned and morphed as concepts, but have no internal consistency and will disappear after some time.

This layer has a "global" stream of thoughts and memories. Residents from the lower layer visit and lean into the stream for easier co-consciousness and ability to communicate regardless of location in their own headspace. Non-global streams of thought are sometimes passed through here from the lower layer, for carrying phone calls.

Lower Layer

The lower layer isn't aphantasiac and has developed a headspace with consistency.

Thoughts in the lower headspace can only be heard in the immediate vicinity. Residents from the upper layer visit for privacy and better focus. They can cause distortions due to existing outside of the headspace's laws of physics.

Other Places

There are other headspaces that are not directly attached to a primary headspace, but they still belong to one layer or another and follow that layer's internal rules and functionality. These alternate headspaces are typically used as homes for specific residents or in-betweens when creating portals in the lower layer's headspace.

Visiting another layer doesn't require an in-between. People will appear in both headspaces at once, as if sending a hologram from one layer to the other. When they lose focus, the hologram disappears and they return to their own layer.
